Pimpy Pakistan

By Tipu Salman Makhdoom

Pimp in our culture is a dishonorable person. A person without essential values.

Pimp is a person who gives priority to his comfort over values.

A person who does not work, instead earns money by abusing his weak/female dependents.

Such a person in our society is called Bay-ghay-rat.

As a child (and I am not old, mind you) many values were nurtured in me. One of the most important, and correspondingly delicate value was Ghay-rat. And being called Bay-ghay-rat used to be a most degrading kind of abuse.

And Bay-ghay-rat was not restricted to pimps. It included persons who would exploit weak. And it was horrible to be called so.

But looking around, I am not sure if that is still the case. A corrupt person is no more considered pimpy; rather enviable.

Our value system has changed. While the cosmetic framework is still the same, substance is no more. While a pimp in a traditional sense is still dishonorable, an exploiter is no more. A corrupt politician or an officer, who fraudulently loots the money from public exchequer is not so considered.

Although this money is meant to be used for giving free education to poor children and free medical treatment to poor, which a corrupt person steals for his own comfort and luxury, yet, somehow, he is not dishonorable anymore.

To be honest anyone with money is honorable in our society now. Regardless of its source.

And that is horrible!

  1. Bayghairat or ghairat...why let society decide it for you.,.I think if it goes well with you ,you can decide the label for yourself...as a Society we are weak in every term.money is not bad but yes means are...but I disagree that whoever has money is honourabl.few ppl still value other things above money.
