How To Kill Depression?

Depression is a sure shot killer. A lethal disease. More than a disease, it’s a germ and a virulent one. Once it gets access in you, it’s only a matter of time before it will start spreading in you like the twilight darkness. And once it has spread its tentacles deep into your thinking patterns, there will be little you could do except seeking medical help. However, there is a lot that you can do to uproot depression when it is trying to grow in you, or better still, to avoid it altogether.
Here is how you get vulnerable to depression.
Depression means that your thinking processes are continuously seeing the bleaker picture of the future. Simply put, it means you are losing hope. This can be happening because of multiple reasons. Your nervous system can be burdened by more than it can take. You might be trying to prove more than you can. Trying to prove yourself a better person than you are, or more successful in a career than your genes, circumstances or luck are allowing you to be. Or maybe you are becoming too realistic and seeing life as a meaningless phenomenon.
Here is how to avoid depression.
Follow the age old wisdom, know thy self. Start giving yourself the luxury of “me time”. Sit alone and think who you are? Whatever it is that you discover honestly, accept it. Learn to like yourself. Stop proving to the world that you are likeable to them. Build your own world around you of the people who like you as you are.
Understand that life is bigger than career. Much bigger. If you are having a problem understanding it, think about hospitals and prisons. There are millions of people who envy your life because you are living without having a continuous pain in any part of your body. They will be ready to give anything to live your life! And there are millions of people who are spending their lives in prison, like animals in cages. You can go wherever you want, whenever you want, can meet anyone you want. For them you are living a heavenly life. And think about billions in the third world who are never sure, when they go to bed, if they will be able to earn a mouthful of bread for their family tomorrow. Learn to appreciate what you have; because its more than what 80% of the world population got.
If you are finding life meaningless, stop looking for the purpose of life. Either start going to Church or figure out a hobby of your taste. Suit yourself but know this in your bones that happiness is not going to happen to you, you will have to make yourself happy by conscious effort. If you think that happiness will come through something else; making a lot of money or getting famous, you are wrong! Happiness is NOT a byproduct!
So follow Lord Buddha: you are what you think.
Feel good about yourself and your life, and happiness will seep in. Happiness is an antidote of depression. A depression killer in true sense!
